The City of Sin ... baabyyy.

Heyhey, it's Hanna. I'm actually really enjoying this umbrella project, apart from maybe the fact that we only have 2 weeks to complete. Bummer. But i'm getting a move on and have started to make my umbrella, which, if I say so myself, is looking pretty damn sexy. My theme is Vegas. The City of Sin. Focussing more on the gambling and wild side. This is my 'vegas' mood board ...

... and my design idea ... like a roulette wheel, see ...

As an extra, I wanted to show you this artist I found. Her name is Connie Lim and she has made these amazing playing card fashion illustrations. I love!!

In todays lesson we marked eachothers work for the spinning tops project. This was really useful because as well as looking at other peoples work we had a chance to see what we could do to improve. We learnt how to be critical yet complimentary of eachother. It was a really good excercise to do.

BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Heyyy Amy G here :)
On saturday I went to the bournemouth university open day to take a little look at the fashion studies course,
although the lady speaking was slightly scary .. the course sounded absolutely brilliant! Theres so much variety and different interesting techniques, if I do go to uni I would definately go here!

Here are some of my photos which I took of spinning tops on the light box which I think have turned out okay, taking pictures of them moving was actually really hard so I am more pleased with my still shots..

Well...

I was going to upload some of my gold card prints I would have scanned in but the scanner has decided it doesn't want me to do that today!

Well I've been busy with this spinning top project and at the moment I'm doing research for it. I have to admit I don't really find this project fun but oh well!

I'm loving the fact Kirstie's Homemade Home is back on Channel 4 again. As geeky as that seems I actually love this programme and enjoy watching and seeing new projects and techniques she learns and the fact you can go to classes to learn certain techniques seem interesting. Maybe I could go to some of these in my gap year next year.

Been messing round on photoshop with overlaying low shutter speed images and negative settings

Also cut out and repeated this photo on a black background.

gold card print

This is my gold card print that I did to try and give a feeling of movement, I think it has worked quite well and gives a feeling of the spinning top moving around. To make this more exciting I could add text or play around with different colours on photo shop.

It's Hanna ... again.

It's not my turn to blog ... so sue me. I just thought i'd drop in a little picture for funsies. Tis a sample of something i'm working on.

Sparklers + long exposure + dad who can write backwards = tadaa.
I have done quite a bit on my new project since my last blog. This is a negative of my front cover, I used a spirograph to make the shapes.

these are a few of my stick and ink images of a spinning top in motion

I then took photos of my spinning top using mirrors and different settings.

I then took loads of photos at the fireworks display I went to in Woking. I took all these photos on a low shutter speed and really like the one of the sparkler and bonfire but I don't think the ones of the fireworks are as good. I have loooads more but won't upload them all.

''And the love kickstarts again do do doo ...''

Hey, Hanna here. Haven't blogged for a while ... oops. So here we are on the spinning tops project. One week in, it's started with a bang. Fireworks weekend. I've taken some photos of fireworks and people playing with sparklers. I'm approaching this 'spinning' aspect by portraying the motion and movement with lights. I got myself some light up spin tops ...

... had my friends play with sparklers ...

(more to be downloaded)

... and found some other pretty light up spinning things ...

... went to dinner with some friends and a lot of glowsticks and came back with this rather attractive work of art ...

... and played spin the bottle ... in the dark  ;)

And now I really hope the college printer is working again!!!
