Blog blog bloggy

Hannah Teasdale

1. How has the class blog benefited your own creative progress and ideas?
It has let me see other peoples work and suggestions when I have been stuck for ideas or inspiration. It has also been very helpful when previous students have posted on the blogs - lots of words of wisdom about University etc...
When I am stuck at a point in my work I can always post on the blog to see what people think and they give me suggestions.

2. Do you regularly follow any specific blogs, and if so, why?
I follow a lot of my friends blogs, I really look up to their work as my peers and it's interesting to see what they are up to. I also follow a couple of other fashion/textile blogs including 5inchandup.blogspot.com - a "what I'm wearing today" kind of blog with the most beautiful photography!
3. What have you gained from looking at other people’s blogs?
Cliched answer but - a whole lot of inspiration! It's great to have somewhere you can go where you can just browse through all of their thoughts, ideas and work and get so many great ideas. Most blogs I follow are written by people who I don't even know from all over the world which is mad in itself! A blog for me is really just somewhere I can go to escape into someone else's little world.
4. Do you think that having a blog/being part of a blog community has been useful in terms of your university applications, i.e. being able to showcase your work in a more professional way?
I think that if you get it right (which I am still working on) then yes! Very useful. If universities or potential employees can see that you are pro-active and are genuinly excited about your work and that you want to share it with other people - they will be impressed! And I wouldn't say professional was the way I'd describe it, it is somewhere you can showcase your work AND your personality; who you are. And if other people are visiting your blog and taking inspiration from it, great!
5. Do you have your own blog?
I do, although with FMP at the moment, I am definitely not updating it as much as I should!
6. Why?
For me, whether there are a million people or no people looking at it, it is just somewhere I can self evaluate and feel proud of what I have acheived. Although if a million people were looking at it then I wouldn't be complaining!
7. Has having your own blog led to anything exciting yet?
Nope :( But hopefully there will be good things to come once I have some more free time over summer.
8. What do you like to blog about the most? Should it all be work, work, work? Why/why not?
At the moment it IS all about work work work, posting about all the things I am producing because at the moment it IS all I am doing. But no. I mean don't go posting your whole life on a blog, some things are best kept personal. But I do think that people reading a blog need to feel some kind of connection between themselves and your blog.
