As of yesterday, I finished the Australia and India suitcases ... and like an hour ago, I finished the America one as well! So ALLLL suitcases done. :D Very happy with how they have turned out.
Here are some not-so-professional photos of the last one:
With this last photo, I did print a thin strip to go on the fold of the suitcase. This strip has only been placed in the photo above. However, I think I prefer the bottom and top pieces of lining to be broken up (so no middle strip). But other opinions are more than welcome! :D
So this week, we have a family from India staying with us, which in my opinion, couldn't have come at a better time, seen as a third of my FMP in based around India!
My dad met them when he was doing charity work out there in the slums of Chennai and this family are sponsored by the same company. There is a little bit of a language barrier, but I can't wait to hear all of their stories and I have already experienced and MASSIVE culture difference!
For example: until their trip here, they had never seen a dishwasher!!!
My prints based on India are purely decorative and taken from the perspective of someone who has never visited the country.
However, Dad being him, thought it would be a good idea to so them my finished suitcase, and they seemed to be pretty pleased with it!! :D
I'm not gunna lie, I was fairly nervous at the thought of them seeing it, purely because I feel as though I have only scraped the surface of the culture, colour and history of India, and I didn't want them to think it didn't represent their country! They should know!
ANYWAY, to cut a long story short, it went down well and I couldn't be happier! I think it propably is my favourite out of the three :)
Along side these suitcases, I am also making various other products based around travel. This week, I have started making three neck pillows.
I did a sample first before printing the real things:
This was what I was originally planning on doing for one of them (all of the neck pillows have the red, pink and beige fabric base like my suitcsaes, hopefully linking them together). However, when I printed the first layer of the real thing, Gayle appeared (as she does :P) and said she liked it just with the first layer ... well it sure as hell took less time to print them!!! Haha, so here is what it now looks like:
I really like the simplicity of it, especially compared to the suitcase linings (as they do consit of like 5 or 6 layers and A LOT of various colours). But at first, I did think Gayle was messing with me! And I did have to be persuaded a little! I just couldn't get the thought out of my head that they look like cow print!!! But I am pleased with it.
I also have printed and am in the process of making the last two, but here are some photos of the colour palette samples:
Will blog about them when they are finshed :)
So thats pretty much it at the moment! Sorry about another long post by me! I must admit that I am getting into this whole blogging thing! Especially when I had never done it before! But by writing down all of my thoughts and processes throughout a project has really helped me to think more clearly ... and I must admit that it boosts my confidence to realise that I have actually done some work that I am proud of!!!
And all of you girlies should be pleased with what you have all done! From what I can see, this is going to be one hell of an exhibition!! Can't wait to see what you all have been up to (especially as I have only pretty much seen the work of people in my crit group).
Well off to catch-up on some book work!
