Dear God

Why is my sewing machine so temperamental?? It worked perfectly for hours and hours yesterday, and decided simply not to work today. I've tried everything, but it just cuts the bobbin thread after a couple of stitches and a hideous clunking noise. I don't know what to do because I've got half a back to go and all the rest of the bodice is covered in this pattern :(

So that's compared to (on the left) yesterdays work

What a mess.

  1. Having laid many many sewing machines to rest in the big mechanical graveyard I might be able offer a few suggestions!

    1) Look in the place where the bobbin goes and there should be a catch that holds in the bit around the bobbin case if you've unflicked it that's the crunching sound, so just turn it back to hold in the rings! This is probably what it is seeing as it just happened overnight, and luckily it's also the easiest to fix!

    2) Try tightening the bobbin tension by taking the bobbin case out and screwing the little screw you will find on the join there.

    3) Check your feeders are working by releasing the needle and then pressing the peddle and watching if the serrated feeders underneath the foot are dropped down. If you can't quite see that you can test it by putting your finger on them and see if you can feel a drag or not but PLEASEEEEE don't forget to take the needle out first!

If it is that then them moving below where they should be would be why their cutting your bobbin thread and you fix it by tightening them up from underneath too! I really hope one of these things work!

    GOOD LUCK
