I was finishing the Futurists essay today, and it reminded me of the designer Hussein Chalayan, He is responsible for many famous designs, including Lady Gaga's bubble dress. He is most well know for his futuristic, technological designs. I thought this linked to spinning tops, as they have motion and movement in them... Here are a couple of videos of his work.
The first one is his spring/Summer 2007 collection, which looks at mechanical dresses that transform into other designs. e.g. Dress to Hat...

The second one is his Spring/Summer 2008 collection, which features L.E.D lazers coming from Swarovski crystals in dresses...
