Hi, its Sally here with this cheeky preview of my current project comes some great responsibility
for all my lovely readers. This is the dress I am currently working on, which
will be COVERED in black & white print, making the eye dance about. But my
question for YOU is should I pick black or gold beading? Let me
explain a little more, on the left I have the original bodice, however I want to
sew beading along the contour lines, as I have marked out on the right at the
sides. I could use black which would add a subtle enhancement, but fit in with
the black & white. OR I could go for gold to really put emphases on the main
focus of my project, to add a classy touch and it would tie in all my three
designs, with a gold touch! SO whats YOUR opinion?
BLACK OR GOLD??? To see more of my progress, please go to http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.com

Inspirational Lines
Hey, its Sally here. Today I want to share with you a swimsuit that has been brought to my attention by several sources. Firstly illustrator Hayden Williams showed me his interpretation of the garment - which I fell in love with; then the same piece was featured in a magazine spread on the beautiful Lana Del Rey. The swimsuit in question is from the Prada SS12 collection, and I just love how the seam lines enhance the contours and curvature of the body, while the darker side panels creates a flattering slimming effect. With further research, I have found Lana has been fronting several Prada ensembles, she more of them here http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/you-fit-me-better-than-my-favorite.html
And bellow is a sneak peek into my preparation of the making process of my three garments. To see more photos please visit my blog, as I have already written an essay for those particular photos http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/my-needles-are-out.html
Anyway have a good long weekend everyone!!!

Not Out of Time!!
Why hello. Its Sally here again. And I am here to tell you I GOT MY PROJECT IN ON TIME!!! Shocking? I know! Not even needing a couple of hours extra on the day. I guess you could say that I don't go quite so over-the-top with interiors, as I do with my sketchbooks for fashion design. Never-the-less I did really enjoy the change from fashion to interior, for a couple of weeks before FMP, and before I began living, eating, breathing and sleeping fashion design (even more so than I do already). My interior project was based around driftwood; from my initial drawing (that took 27hrs) I came up with the print of which I covered my chair, walls and canvases in, for maximum clash! The chair itself I then veneered in my print (which took 21hrs) and then built up my own back to it too! So bellow are some of my final photos, taken within my own house. You can see the before & afters of my space, the paint splashing close up (of which I have videoed - just need to upload!) and the final photos of my space too. . .
Next piece of news I wish to share with you all, the exciting London happenings of this week. Firstly (through my blog Dress Me, I'm Your Mannequin ) I was invited to a talk at LCF about the AW12 collections, which - although it only lasted an hour - was crammed full of useful information and inspiring imagery. After writing at the speed of light (to keep up with the talk) I must of got at least 20pages of really in depth notes!! On that same Tuesday, Flo also took me along with her to her Lucy In Disguise work experience, where I was able to meet Sarah Owen and talk/show her through some of my designs - which she said she liked! :) Upon arriving back to Alton, I was greeted with another invite on Wednesday, this time to a Grazia & French Connections party this Thursday. My final exciting fashion news comes from Twitter. Yes Gayle I know you think Twitters a tad silly, which yes it is 90% of the time, but it can be a great tool for promotion, if used right. And I obviously have been using it to some effect, as this Friday my blog was preempted by Mercedes London Fashion Week (the sponsors of LCF) - which meant my blog was promoted to over 20,000 people that day! Happy Times!
And finally . . . I have been blogging like mad, after some advice from a friend "being a really dedicated blogger has been how I have achieved what I have achieved". So more dedication to my blog is in order! In the last week here are all my posts on runway/trend reports, fashion editorial reviews and on new designers. So please take a cheeky peek ;)

Im Not Interioir, I Am A Fashion Girl Born & Bred
Sally again, with one quick photo & one quick blog post - as I seem to be addicted to blogging this week!!! I actually cant seem to stop myself! Anyway the title says it all really, even though we are in the middle of an interior project, I still find myself verging into the direction of fashion, even if it is just an unusually large lampshade with a model standing inside - who could deny this as fashion?!? Incase you are wondering the context of this photograph, it is Marianne Maric's "Lamp Girl", taken of the model getting ready to go and model the opening of "Sex Sells" at SHOWstudio. Now the question is, can you connect the photo with the title? I have certainly seen the clever link. But I will leave you to fathom that one out over the next few days.

A Post for Sunday Night (I know its Monday, but I'm cheating!!!!)
Hi, my name is Sally, and I do not know the meaning of a non fashion blog post. In fact I do not know the meaning of a non fashion project, non fashion hobbies or non fashion lifestyle. You could say that my whole world revolved around fashion, and lets be fair, you would not be far off!
So back to the point, this blog post wont be on the current project, but will be on an inspirational young designer and illustrator called Hayden Williams. I met him though my blog - Dress Me, I'm Your Mannequin - and we have been in contact since. So when we was given the task to research illustrators for the skirt project, I knew exactly where to go. I have also done a more in depth blog post on his work, including a the unique quote he gave me especially for my last project. To see this please go to http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.com/2012/03/illustrator-designer-of-moment.html Bellow are some of his designs and illustrations inspired the culture around us.
And bellow is my very own attempt at creating a response to his work (you can see more photos of this and how I did it here http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-illustrational-responce-to-hayden.html)
And here is my responce (bellow).
And my final design for the skirt project, of which the illustraional styling was inspired by William's work.
And bellow, is a teaser of my skirts photoshoot - more to come very soon ;)
So this bit of research that had initially started out as just a piece for my skirt project became a blogpost dedicated to Hayden Williams, which has had almost 200 views in the past two days. Hayden has also shown his support with several tweets & retweets supporting my blog (some are bellow) and has (as of today) started following me on twitter. YES I AM A TAD STARSTRUCK!!! But who can blame me when I am in love with his illustrations! Such an inspiration. Another exciting thing that has come from my contact and blog post has been that I have been able to make even more contacts with designer colleagues of Williams and also have been contacted by a fashion website/blog to help with their new project, after they saw my blog and asked "Would you be interested in being a editor or writer" ERMMMM YESSS!!!!

AND FINALLY, if that wasn't enough, I have had another spot of luck. Through my blog's contacts, today I have been offered FREE tickets (they are normally $75) to a talk at LCF with Chris Gilbert on the AW12 collections in London next Tues. I am unbelievably excited and am taking Miss Florence Smith with me too :) So it is fair to say, these last few days have been very good for me and my fashion blog.
So right now, I shall love you and leave you (to check out my blog ;) http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.com)

A Late Publish, But A Publish Nonetheless
Hello, its me again, Sally, here with a rather big fat apology of neglection.
What with hours of travelling, extremely late nights (working not partying!!) and uni interviews this week, I have seemed to of neglected the days of the week, and therefore last weeks blog post. (as crazy as it may sound) I have only just realised that last week ended 36 1/2 hours ago! Ooops. So my apologies for this belated post - but as they say better late than never! And I did have every intention in doing this post (as well as many more on http://dressme-imyourmannequin.blogspot.com) Thursday evening - the night before my interview, while relaxing in my 4* hotel room - unfortunately there was no room for my laptop in my overnight bag & no extra strength in my muscles to carry my only means of blogging. And let me tell you, I DID suffer a whole 48hrs without internet (not even on my phone!) - after leaving my laptop behind, I also realised I couldn't do the work I'd intended in my hotel room for the 10 page project falmouth asked for (BUT DIDN'T EVEN FUDGING LOOK AT!!) nor could I do my planned research on the uni and it's course the night before. Damn!!
But anyway, enough about my aking muscles and long train rides, I shall talk about my interview in this weeks blog post (to come). Today I just fancied sharing with you some of my fashion illustrations for the skirt project - to show how I have explored many techniques of illustrating and I to share with you my (extremely) time consuming work. So hope you enjoy!!
Above: A response to Alber Elbaz's (works for Lanvin) fashion illustrations, done in water soluble pens (1hour).
Above: A design response to the work of Central Saint Martin's students at Reclaim to Wear (a clothes recycling design organisation) done in water soluble pens (1hour).
Above: A response to Cedric Rivrain's fashion illustrations, done in pencil and colour pencil - unfortunately my scanner refused to scan in colour, so this copy is only black and white (3hours).
Above: Design # 1 - inspired by envelopes (1 1/2 hours).
Above: Design # 2 and gift bow pencil drawing - Inspired by a gift bow and was a possible candidate for my final design. (7 hours).
Above: Design # 3 - Inspired by a cloudy blue sky (2hours).
Above: Design # 4 and a sapphire pencil drawing - Inspired by a sapphire (8hours).
Above: Design # 5 and a pencil drawing of a rose and a strawberry - Inspired by that manipulation of natural things such as the rose and the strawberry died blue (8 1/2 hours).
So hope you enjoyed looking at what I shared with you today (and what I had planned to share with you last Thursday!!!) Also keep tuned in to see my final bits to my skirt project, to hear about the Falmouth interview and to see some of my Brighton photos.

My week with my pony
I have been with my pony now for just over two weeks, and after a slow start, I have seemed to of grasped this projects full potential and have begun to get truely excited. So this is how a project on books have become (for me) a project ending in a garment.
Initially I like to start with a pencil sketches to get the true proportions of my starting points . . .
and I use photos and Biro.
I then decided to experiment with different types of line making. So here I have used a Biro and drawn a series of ponies without taking my pen off the page once - so it is a one line drawing. I then photocopied onto acetate to try layering, mirroring and the potential of turning it into a pattern.
As I am very interested in fashion design, I did want to somehow link the project. And I was lucky enough to find this collection by Wildfox White Label Spring 2012 collection, which was actually inspired by My Little Pony too. It was when looking into this collection that I had my big IDEA - As I wish to reflect an inner playfulness, I have decided to make a storybook, with a difference. The pages will be made into the lining of an adult's garment to reflect your inner child.
From this I went onto look at the types of fashion warn around horses - for example cowgirls and fairytales (which fitted in nicely with the playful theme). I have decided to look at small aspects from mainly the cowgirl style, such as collars and fabrics that define it, and to build it into my piece subtly.
I then looked at the use of horses within fashion, which mainly showed a variation of horse prints, from a large dramatic wrap around photo print to a ditsy repeated horse print.
I had also found the print on the skirt above from a magazine advert, which gave me another idea. The skirt and bra use silhouettes as a print in a darker colour along the sides as a method of illusional dressing. The print above helps to enhance a slimmer hourglass silhouette, flattering the wearer's figure. Also the contrast makes for a dramatic print. With all this in consideration, I decided to try a print similar of my own . . .
. . . from horse silhouettes. I plan to screen print very soon.
Another print I was interested in looking at is the playful prints used in the Miu Miu collections, as I thought the symbols would fit well. Also I was very inspired how the youthful design was made much more sophisticated with the colours and cut of the garments, and made more elaborate with a variation of fabrics and embellishments.
And above is the start of my print making. I found at the beginning of this project, that My Little Pony each have a symbol on its back to reflect it's name/personality. After looking into some of the symbols, I chose the ones above to alter and experiment with in similar prints to Miu Miu's. I am hoping that I can use something similar within my design.
So it may of been a busy few weeks for me, but it will be a very busy next few days. But its all enjoyable work. So wish me & my pony luck!!
